店名《うきよい》について

「浮き宵」 / 「憂き宵」＝ 浮つく夜 / 悲しむ夜。物事や人間の、二面性や表裏一体を表現する。

「浮き舟」「浮き雲」のような “浮遊”、ひとところに止まらない “漂流” をするイメージ。

そして「待宵」の「宵」から、月の出を待つ「夜の始まり」、あるいは「一日の終わり」、つまり「終わりの始まり」の意味も含む。

秋の季語や大和ことばから生み出した、つくりことば。

ロゴのモチーフは「月」、「夜」、「鳥」。二面性・表裏一体を、シンメトリーによって表現し、中国から伝わるような吉祥印を参考に。グラフィックデザイナーでもある店主によるデザインです。

I'm “ UKIYOI ” that sell a used book store based in Nagasaki city.
I mainly sell old books, old paper, old miscellaneous goods, old tools, etc. online.
For example, art, design, photography, Japanese subculture, literature, poetry and so on.

About my store name "UKIYOI".

「浮き宵（UKIYOI）」means “floating evening”.
「憂き宵（UKIYOI）」means “sad evening”.

These express the duality and two sides of things and people.

The image that “FLOATING” like ”浮き舟（floating boat）” and ”浮き雲（floating clouds）” and “DRIFTING” that doesn’t stop in one place.

And the ”宵（YOI）” in "待宵（Matsuyoi）'' also includes the meaning of "the beginning of the night'' waiting for the moon to rise, or the "end of the day" or "the beginning of the end".

This is a made-up word created from autumn season words and Yamato words.

The motifs of the logo are the moon, night and bird.This expresses "duality" and "two sides of the same coin" through symmetry, based on the auspicious seals that come from China. This designed by owner also being a graphic designer.
